Seeing I

2014

Examining “love” through the “Mirror Stage” in Jacques Lancan's writings. Seeing I's dialogue looks at queering through androgyny and the physical similarities between pachyderms. The work features a two-channel  video-projection, using 35mm film footage of the taxidermist specimens at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, as well as animations of male elephants battling each other. A complimentary project accompanies this work, including a series of woodcut prints and serigraphs that play with elephant-imagery blurred into Rorschach; as well as a neon and a mirror installation.
