By following patterns in fabrics, I highlight motifs and designs that exemplify specific cultural iconography. In these works, I meld sari textiles from Indian and kanga textiles from Kenya. The layered fabrics create a three-dimensional surface that resemble maps. The map is a symbol for migration and is an important image in my work. By sewing these textiles together, I am removing the distinct cultural values that these fabrics carry, while making a statement about migration and assimilation.
