2011

(buli) continues to explore the barriers and codes that language create through the lens of ethnicity. The works looks at Dada writing fashions that play on repetition and nonsensicality, while referencing wall labels and provenance reports of African objects in museum collections. The installation features text animations that pulse in Morse code patterns, a text poem inscribed in vinyl on the gallery walls and a sound work that mixes rants of gibberish with clips of a classical harpsichord. The work offers a minimalist aesthetic with complex moments that question colonial histories through the removal and loss of cultural goods.
